The Obsidian SG-One: A $1.3 Million Dollar Mustang - Gallery & Video

“I call the car Obsidian,” says Matt Couper, owner of CoupeR Design. “It’s the name of a black volcanic rock, made from molten lava, that’s sharper than a surgeon’s scalpel. I thought it was appropriate.” Yeah, pretty appropriate.

Aside from the roof and the doors, this car is completely custom. The CouprR Design team spent over 10,000 man hours on it, and it shows. It’s totally flawless, perfect Cobra-black with only a few bits of chrome for the trim and the vent covers.

The vents, by the way, are all fully functional, all 6 of them (that’s not counting the ones on the hood bulge). The 2 hidden scoops on the front valence feed air to the superchargers, the 2 scoops on the front fender force air to the front disc brakes - same goes for the 2 scoops on the rear quarter, they force air to the rear brakes. I guess when you have 847hp, you need a lot of stopping power.

Yeah, you read correctly. This car has a mostly custom, twin-supercharged, 5.7-litre V8; and when the twin Rotrex superchargers are spinning they get the engine up to exactly 847bhp according to the dyno. 847 horsepower; and 770 lbs/f of torque.

Lambo Doors Are So Last Year: Disappearing Car Doors Are Fresh

Quiet is the new loud. You just spent 5 grand hooking up your Civic with lambo doors, only to realize, they’re not cool anymore. What you need now is a set of disappearing doors from Jatech. Word.

They’re actually pretty cool, and relatively simple. The door just rolls under and slides into a compartment under the car. They thing is, it’s totally electronic, so when your battery dies, you’ve got to break your window to get out. Still, I think with some minor modifications, like a manual open option, I bet we see this in a mainstream production car within the next 5-10 years at least.

Mechatronics: BMW Has Amazing Balls

Check out this mechatronic installation set up in BMW’s museum in Munich, Germany. It’s made up of 714 metal balls suspended on wire and hooked up to servos and rotors at the top so they appear to float around and undulate magically. The little orbs cycle through a whole series of abstractions and various BMW vehicle forms. Kinetic sculptures are awesome. It looks like I’m going to have to take a trip to Munich.

It’s definitely better to see it in action, so check out the video:

Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Goes Off Road (video)

lamborghini lp560-4 gallardo

Check out this video that was just posted on YouTube recently, it’s of a brand new white Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 ripping around on some beat up concrete in front of some bystanders doing 0-100mph back and forth, until the 1:15 mark when it seems to not be able to brake in time and does some major off-roading into some sand. Doesn’t look graceful or planned whatsoever!

[Video] Gold Lamborghini LP640 World Record: 219mph!!!

banner-lp.jpg

A Gold 2008 Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 with 2461 miles just recently hit an LP640 world speed record at 219mph (352km/h).  It took this raging steroidal bull 4 runs (with its sideview mirrors folded back) to finally hit this new speed record.

On it’s 3rd run it overtook Zahir Rana’s Yellow Enzo Ferrari’s earlier Top Speed Run of 211 mph (339km/h).

This speed record took 4 attempts to finally hit 219mph (the bull needed the first 3 to really stretch & warm up).

1st Run - 190mph (306km/h)
2nd Run - 211mph (340km/h)
3rd Run- 214mph (344km/h)
4th Run - 219mph (352km/h)

Endos and Hemis, revisited

I think we finally figured out how to post YouTube videos here. I know, it only took us forever and a day, but hey, we get paid for producing high-quality magazines, not for tinkering under the hood of this here blog. Anyway, to celebrate, I dug up a pair of videos that we posted links to more than three years ago. They still remain favorites of mine. Enjoy!
