The Obsidian SG-One: A $1.3 Million Dollar Mustang - Gallery & Video

“I call the car Obsidian,” says Matt Couper, owner of CoupeR Design. “It’s the name of a black volcanic rock, made from molten lava, that’s sharper than a surgeon’s scalpel. I thought it was appropriate.” Yeah, pretty appropriate.

Aside from the roof and the doors, this car is completely custom. The CouprR Design team spent over 10,000 man hours on it, and it shows. It’s totally flawless, perfect Cobra-black with only a few bits of chrome for the trim and the vent covers.

The vents, by the way, are all fully functional, all 6 of them (that’s not counting the ones on the hood bulge). The 2 hidden scoops on the front valence feed air to the superchargers, the 2 scoops on the front fender force air to the front disc brakes - same goes for the 2 scoops on the rear quarter, they force air to the rear brakes. I guess when you have 847hp, you need a lot of stopping power.

Yeah, you read correctly. This car has a mostly custom, twin-supercharged, 5.7-litre V8; and when the twin Rotrex superchargers are spinning they get the engine up to exactly 847bhp according to the dyno. 847 horsepower; and 770 lbs/f of torque.

1970 Dodge Challenger R/T for sale on eBay: Kowalski’s Car

Vanishing Point

There’s a fantastic 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T on eBay just begging to be painted alpine white and driven from Denver to San Francisco at an insane rate of speed while evading police and getting into adventures. If you don’t understand what I’m talking about, then you need to get on your Netflix queue and put the 1971 classic Vanishing Point on top.

Vanishing Point is, by far, the greatest road movie of all time. It’s the story of a man named Kowalski driving a brand new alpine white 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T across the western United States, and I’ll just leave it at that. The movie has to been seen to be appreciated. It’s a masterpiece, just like the ‘70 Challenger R/T.

With a 440 cubic inch V8, and the ability to hit the quarter mile in under 14 seconds, it is just a badass machine. Plus it was the Last American Hero’s car. The eBay version is a bit different than the Vanishing Point version though, Kowalski had a 4-speed trans with a 4-barrel carburetor, whereas the eBay version has an automatic trans and the rare Six-Pack engine (three 2-barrel carburetors). Either way, amazing car.

If I may quote from the movie:

“And there goes the Challenger, being chased by the blue blue meanies on wheels. The vicious traffic squad cars are after our lone driver, the last American hero, the electric sitar, the demigod, the super driver of the golden west.

But, it is written, if the evil spirit arms the tiger with claws, Brahman provideth wings for the dove. Thus spake the super guru.”

Honda Teases Us with Promise of a New NSX in 2010

Honda lets slip out its intention of building a new NSX for the year 2010, but this does not fall long after expectations were raised with a similar indication for 2008-2009. However, even false promises will not keep most NSX fans from feeding their own excitement with such news. The original NSX is still one of the most respected sports cars on the road and due to its rarity in many areas still turns heads to this day.

Acura displayed what it was calling the Advanced Sports Car Concept this year and some speculated that it would be the framework for the next NSX, but Acura has since announced that they were pulling back their concept for a redesign. And thus hope wained again.

While Honda has not provided us with any sketches or etches or paintings or concepts over which to drool and further speculate (more…)
