Lexus Confirms HS 250h to be Unveiled in Detroit

lexus_hs250h_badge.jpg
Last year Toyota confirmed that a Lexus branded dedicated hybrid model would make its debut at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show. Lexus has now confirmed that the new dedicated hybrid will be dubbed the HS250h.

The details are scarce about the new model although it is expected that the new Lexus hybrid will share some of, if not all of its mechanicals with the also new 2010 Toyota Prius. If the HS 250h in fact does use the same hybrid powertrain as the new Prius it will be the next-generation Hybrid Synergy with nickel-metal hydride battery packs. Unfortunately lithium-ion packs are still in development and will be added at a later date.

Stay tuned for all the details from the show next month.

Toyota will debut Tundra Work Truck Package in San Diego

Click above for high-res image gallery of the Toyota Tundra Work Truck Package

One glaring omission in the range of Tundra trim levels is a stripper model suitable for duty as a basic work truck. Toyota will change all that at this year's San Diego Auto Show (Dec. 31, 2008 to Jan. 4, 2009) when the 2010 Toyota Tundra Work Truck Package debuts. Like any good work truck, a Tundra with the Work Truck Package is decontented enough to guarantee that your employees don't enjoy the drive too much. All the chrome on the Tundra's exterior has been replaced with black plastic, including the front and rear bumpers and grille, the latter of which has been slightly revised with a two-bar design. The side view mirrors are only manually adjustable, the bench seat is upholstered in washable vinyl, the floor is rubber and the dash is all black plastic. Cruise control and remote keyless entry are also gone as standard features. Available on Regular and Access Cab models in standard and long bed configurations with your choice of a V6 or V8 engine, the Work Truck Package will lower the price of your Tundra by as little as $550 and as much as $665. While not exactly the most exhilarating debut this auto show season, Toyota no doubt sees the benefit of broadening the Tundra's appeal to businesses that get their hands dirty.

2008 Toyota Sequoia Superbowl Commercial

In what was probably the least effective and least memorable car commercial of the 2008 Super Bowl, Toyota tried to advertise to appeal to Big Wheels sentiment and mom’s with active children to show off it’s 8 seat Sequoia. The commercial didn’t work for us. How about you?

Tokyo Motor Show: Toyota goes unconventional with Hi-CT Plug-In Concept Trucklet

Toyota HI-CT Plug-In Concept

Toyota’s design team has broken themselves from nearly all automotive conventions and is stepping out of the box…  well, stepping out of the conventional box to create a new box entirely. The Toyota Hi-CT plug-in concept is a 4-seater (those back seats are in there somewhere) plug-in hybrid truck-type-thing. The Hi-TC is part of Toyota’s study of environmental concepts and new designs that might better fit the new hybrid technologies. While the Hi-CT is highly unconventional it is intentionally so. New technologies often do not fit so well in old packages.

Here is how Toyota describes the Hi-CT and what they see its purpose as and look for more photos after the leap:

Hi-CT (”hi ride city truck”) - an edgy, urban vehicle (more…)

Toyota F1 Engine Cover: High-Tech Toy

Toyota F1 Engine Cover: High Tech Toy
Like it or not, Formula 1 will still be at the pinnacle of motorsports. The future may be bleak for the most watched sporting event in the world but that’s no reason not to have some F1 memorabilia. Toyota, being one of the few teams who supply both chassis and engine to a racing team, has loads of surplus parts they want the public to have. Several items are available on their online store, the biggest (and most expensive) of which is this engine cover with underfloor and rear wing. Made of carbon fiber, the entire rear half of the car can serve several purposes, it’s all up to you. Convert it to a high-tech gaming station or a simple decor, you be the pit boss. ~$7,000.
